Work

Architecture

  • Books on Wheels is a project that was developed to give students a place for quiet studying, reading and resting. This shed is as much static as it is moving. It is an exchange book shed that can be pushed around campus. It was made from reclaimed materials and came to a cost of about 80£ spent purely paint, fire proof retardant, nails and screws.

Arts

  • Black Isis was inspired by the role of the Goddess Isis in the book 'The Angel of the West Window' by Gustav Meyrink. Medium: Sweetchestnut and paint.
  • Carmen's Wedding Carmen was inspired by the opera by Georges Bizet, together with oder colourfull projects it elaborates on the human nature of change particularly in feminity and identity.

Portfolio

  • OSMOSIS consists of creating a permeable membrane at a human scale. Its occupants become particles and the system - Membrane - is designed.

Interest

I am interested in understanding where computation meets craftmanship and what is the potential of a conversation between the two in the design and artistic processes. What sort of dialogue develops from this meeting? Are these processes mutually exclusive when used to design? Can they merge without the need for preference? isn't design something unrestricted by a skill or a language? Can it then, in the case of an idea, be translated into reality - pragmatic reality - by deliminating the variables and languages necessary to achieve such a goal that is good design? I find my identity distorted by the imposition of a system that emphasizes mutually exclusiveness over potential. To treat salt and sweet as unmixable and mutually exclusive avoids the potential - the idea - of the peanut butter jelly toast. Can it be in the greatest of opposites that one finds the most amazing of combinations?
