Biography
Born in Kuching [1], Sarawak, Malaysia in 1996. I went through the national education system, finishing with Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM)[2], the equivalent of GCSE [3]. I later went on to do my A-levels in Kolej Tuanku Ja'afar (KTJ) [4]. Currently, I am a student at the Architectural Association School of Architecture (AA School) [5]
Interests
I have in music and performance arts; the organisation, training and dedication behind it to create something amazing that is known as a universal language, universally understood and loved. I also enjoy reading, it provides so many varied experiences and situations that no normal person would be able to experience in a single lifetime. Photography allows one to capture split-second moments or hidden gems that people would normally overlook. The satisfaction of getting the desired shot after careful studies and patience.
Research Focus
Biomimetic adaptive design. How does nature adapt to its surroundings, situations and/or inhabitants? How can this adaptation be translated into design or even an algorithm?
L-Systems
Shape grammars
Propositions
With the concept of temporary, time-oriented structures that adapt according to its purpose, I want to design a structure or a cluster of them to serve this purpose. The site is temporary markets in Central London servicing the offices in its surroundings. These markets are mostly open only for lunchtime when the office workers all file out of their respective offices in search for food. These markets are normally in streets or rather tight and awkward corners off of the road. I want to design a structure that would be able to adapt to these spaces yet be temporary enough that it could be assembled and disassembled in a short time frame seeing as office lunch hours are largely an hour only, between 13:00 to 14:00.
In terms of design, my interest in biomimetic adaptive design comes in. I get inspiration from the growth and formation of mushrooms. How do they cluster together and grow as well as the mushroom itself as a structure or texture. Studying the growth and formation of mushrooms will help in the understanding how to expand my structure according to its uses. How would they grow while avoiding obstacles and each other or even melding with each other.
Would this design be able to be implemented in places other than metropolitan cities? Would the programme and expansions change to suit its environment?
